I love doors. I wasn't aware of this passion until I started to travel. Suddenly cool doors everywhere
caught my attention. The older the better. The more colorful the better. I just began to love doors.
An interesting door has a story to tell. Someone cool lives here behind the door. I never really want to
see past the door. I don't want to be disappointed if it doesn't live up to my expectations. I content myself with the story I spin around the door. Quite possibly the bohemian that lives behind the door is a struggling artist, with walls are painted purple and red. They are brave enough to live out the life they want even if it
means eating just bread and cheese. They just have to please themselves and no one else.
I think I love the story because it just isn't real. Everybody these days wants to make sure their house is
ready for the next tenant. We watch real estate shows on TV that tell us how to make sure our home is
sellable. Purple and red walls, God forbid! Even the interesting door would have to go. When did we get
so boring? When did we all let some TVchick from New Jersey with bad hair and a blouse that puckers over her boobs talk us into such a bland life?
I will continue my love affair with doors. I say paint your doors with abandon! I have hundreds of photos of colorful wonderful doors from Argentina, Chile, Paris, Cognac, New Orleans, Napa and Charleston. Ahh Charleston, they have great doors! Oops, I almost forgot...I like windows too!
