The sand path running behind Lee's landing to the InterCoastal canal. |
Have you ever wanted something passionately and when you finally got it you realized it wasn’t right for you? I am happy to report that after almost one year here at the beach I know I made the right decision.
I can use all sorts of cute-isms and quotes to express myself but it still all boils down to I love it here and it seems to love me back. It gifts me colorful sea glass, beautiful shells and smooth sleek driftwood. The sense of wonder here is increased by the absence of a television and the presence of my beautiful birds.
I arrived home today and Salty timed a song just for me. He knows it is one of my favorites, it does not apply to us, but I just love the sound of the song. It reminds us of a younger time near other beaches in California. At that time we were still relying on a boom box with a battery to entertain us as we visited beaches named Gaviota, Pismo and Malibu. I can’t really remember but the song must have been on the charts in the late 70's
When you live at the beach it is a given you like living outdoors. A large part of our evenings are spent outdoors in front of a roaring (Salty perfect) fire with Citronella pots glowing in the dusk. I traded all those tablecloths, candelabras, and decor for a far more perfect living experience.
Most nights we cook outside on the grill. As of yet I havn’t been able to convince him to let me move the gas grill at the investment house here…but I am patient. The beach has taught me that timetables are irrelevant, the tide comes in, the tide goes out and things eventually wear down. That is my plan for Salty...wear him down.
It is hard to believe when I am here that we live in such a material oriented world. It is even harder to believe that I was so invested in it myself. My greatest shopping thrill now is scavenging the beach for treasures that are put there just for me.
Less has made me see more. Less has given me more. More peace, more time, more ways to create. Less, it seems, really is more.
