Info Post

If you were lucky enough to grow up with sisters and if you yourself are a sister, you will "get" this observation. Did you  have to read the first sentence twice to understand it?  Yep, that is sometimes what it is like living with sisters. Our relationships can be fraught with "wierd sentences."

I am the oldest of four girls.  We each have a personality that makes us unique.  There is the pretty one, the sweet one ( that may be questionable in our set of four), the smart one ( not me!), the athletic one...you get the idea.  Even if our parents didn't assign us personalities, girls seem to have an affinity for doing so to themselves. The three I mentioned might not even apply to any one of the four of us, but we have probably assigned ourself a role of some sort.  I really hate it when I hear sisters use self depreciating decriptions of themselves, when comparing themselves to a sister.  The sister would hate it to.

Each of my sisters have qualities I admire.  One posesses what seems to be endless confidence, another has a tender spirit that you can feel when she is around, still another always reminds me of  sunshine and happy days.  At one time or another they have all exhibited all three plus many others.  Yes, we have even all had a few attributes that weren't so pretty or nice to view.  That is the miracle of a sister, she is alway there through all of it.  I hope my actions show my sisters I admire, love and would do anything for them.

When we were younger, my mother always advised us "We don't fight with our sister."  My mother was one of four sisters also, she understood well that which she was speaking of. She was right, of course.  I would consider it one of the worst days of my life, if I lost a sister to harsh words.

I stood on the side as I watched my mother and her older sister say goodbye to my aunt, their sister.  The pain they were feeling was palpable and almost unbearable to watch.  I know for a fact, they think of her
everyday.

Do I know what my role is?  Sure I do...I am the older sister, I get to view my three lovely younger sisters as never aging, always perfect and always a joy to be around.  Nobody has a better role than me.

Here we are, the Jacobs clan.  My baby brother Shannon is on the right.  That is his role...the baby!
