It is often said that God will whisper, then talk and eventually shout should you ignore His promptings. It is no secret that I have trouble relaxing. The days before taking off for Cabo San Lucas were almost excrutiatingly stressful for me. Had I covered all my bases at work? Was something going to go wrong that I should have prepared my managers for? Would this be the vacation my bosses would realize I was a crazy woman and why had they ever hired me in the first place? Had I packed correctly? I clearly wasn't doing any listening.
Obviously, I bring stress on myself. Obviously, God was in shout mode when my two distresses hit me at the same time at the end of our third day here. The message has been pretty clear, "sit down and shut up."
So, I did. It has been hard not to be able to be the "vacation manager." The girls, my daughters, are more than capable of taking charge. Each in their own way, they took over at that which they are most talented. Terri was the organizer and Kaylan was our personal chef. My grandchildren were very solicitous. Salty was worried but took great care of me. So, I sat. And sat. And sat. And I shall continue to sit.

This is how it felt when I didn't know where the closest banos was. |
Although my back is better and the bubbleguts have passed, I am still listening, sitting and enjoying my vacation. I will say goodbye to our first set of Cabo visitors in the morning and will disappoint the second set who arrive on Saturday. They will probably expect non-listening Catherine to charge around and fulfill all their cabo wishes, but will find a sitting listener instead. They will have to organize themselves, zip line without me and eat spicy food and fruit that I am not even going to think about taking a chance on.
I try not to spend too much time in regretsville, it is a village without much fun. No matter what is happening or how bleak things seem the last three years have taught me much about perception. How we react to situations define us and the situation. So I will probably have to refer to this Cabo week as the "bubbleguts"
week and laugh until I wet my pants. There is a lot of stuff going on south of the border in my life.
