If you have more time than sense...this is the project for you! How hard could it be I asked myself as I looked at the Pier1 Halloween catalog?

So I start out to find all the elements of the design I will need. I was prowling the Dollar Tree looking for items for another project when I spied a spider web table mat. I looked all over the display to find enough of the same color mats to make the runner from those but no such luck. So I settled on an orange mat, and purchased it.

I purchased 3 yards of felt for this and another future project. I cut off a strip 81 inches long and 18 inches wide. Using the orange web as a stencil, I used a paint marker to draw all the needed cut out lines. I placed the stencil/web end to end 6 times. This creates a runner with 6 webs all connected.

I started with scissors, cutting out the outlined parts...disaster. After several tries, I finally ended up with a plain old straight edge razor in my hand, on a very old formica tabletop, and very pretty even cuts. I cut the entire runner out and then with a bottle of Plaid Liquid Glitter outlined all the edges with the glitter. This will be used at a Glam Halloween Party for my grand daughter Jasmin.

All in all, I am happy. The project wasn't really time intensive but the cutting was tedious. The cost of the runner at Pier1 here in the store was $19.99, I spent less than $8.00. So maybe I can retract my more time than sense comment! |
